Per Guy L. Bierman on Ancestry.com "Oley Valley Ancestors"

A native of Picardy, France. Daniel and Marie were Huguenots who fled t o Amsterdam, Holland after the "Revocation of the Edict of Nantes", in 1 685. Tradition says they manufactured brocade and taffetas in France, a nd they had considerable wealth. To get their wealth out of France, Ma rie made a dress of squares, like a quilt. In each square she placed a g old piece. The LeVans affiliated themselves with the Amsterdam Refugee C hurch of the Walloons. It is presumed Daniel and Marie died in Amsterd am, Holland. Family name was originally "de Levan."
