bullet  General Notes:

From Diana Quinones <audianaQ@msn.com>

I have Daniel LEVAN married Madgalena at First Reformed Church, Reading on
12/5/1802, (both were shown from Alsace). Daniel inherited some of his
father's property including a tannery when Isaac died 1800. Here is what
is in 'Passing Scene', Vol 2, by George Meiser IX and his wife Gloria, p
208-210:

"Isaac Levan made a will 5/1/1800 in which he devised 180 acres of land
along the banks of the Schuylkill in Reading to his son Isaac.
To grandsons, Jacob and Isaac Hottenstein, he left 116 acres in Alsace, now
part of Muhlenberg Twp that included the inn known as King Solomon's Temple
- now the Temple Hotel located on Kutztown Rd and Mount Laurel Ave.
To his son Daniel, a tanner, he gave 2 60-foot wide lots - including a
tanyard- that lay immediately north of Polly Feather's property. Polly
Feather was his niece, and was bequeathed a 1 1/2 story brick house on
Chestnut St and Sixth. She resided in the house and taught a 'pay school',
prior to the time of public schools.
Son Daniel LEVAN carried on the tannery and in 12/1807, he sold out to John
Diffenbach for 1900 pds. and he continued until 1825 when so in debt,
Sheriff sale resulted, and it was bought by Abraham KERPER."

In Morton Montgomery's History of Berks Co., pub 1908 he says:

Daniel Levan, grandfather of James B., was a native of Exeter township,
Berks county, Pa. He died on his farm in Albany township before 1840, and
is buried in a private burial ground on the farm now owned by James B. He
came from Exeter to Albany in 1813, and bought the farm now owned by his
grandson from his father-in-law, Peter Fries, and on this farm he lived
until his death. He met his wife, a Miss Fries, in Reading, and their
children were: Lydia m. Reuben Smith; Sally m. Benjamin Kramer; Benjamin;
Maria (1815-1891) m. David Lutz, brother of Samuel; and Daniel, a farmer
and blacksmith at Wessnersville, where he owned the farm now the property
of Henry Leiby, and was the father of the following children: Lavina,
Casetta, William, Cordelia, Belisa, Mrs. Henry Leiby and Dr. Walter.
